Paige has the embarrassing shower/intruder scene that is "only a dream" but comes off as an excuse to get their attractive female lead fully naked (showing more of her than of any other male to remove their clothes), but she also has another scene where she is forced to strip at gunpoint. Lauren is introduced in a bath robe ready for her next client as a sex worker. Then, there's the introduction to the female characters. There's the poorly handled twist in the clock repair shop, but there's also the bad mobster stuff I had completely forgot, including a badly staged and thought-out shootout. Uniformly, the worst writing is left to the thoughts of the characters that are mostly optional this writing, along with others moments, are so blatant and lacking of any nuance. Paige frequently tells herself "you go girl", again with the utmost sincerity.

After completing his work, Ethan Mars says that now is the time to "seize the day" in a non-ironic manner. Because so much of the game looks breathtaking, the odd instances of bad textures or low-poly objects stick out quite a bit.Ĥ: The writing has its moments of being good, but overall it's wildly inconsistent to downright laughable. However, the game looks stunning at times, except the food which looks inedible (no one should eat eggs that look like the eggs Shelby cooks in this game). And, yes, the children are shockingly bad.

The voice actress for Lauren is atrocious, Ethan Mars loses his accent in important, emotional scenes, Madison Paige barely has any range (due heavily to the game not giving her much of a character), and Norman Jayden has such odd phrasings at times that become distracting (he seems unable to pronounce the letter "r"). The game is just demanding too much from them, and they aren't able to deliver anything close to what is needed.
HEAVY RAIN BLACK CHARACTER LICENSE
There are gross inconsistencies at times (the license plates for all the vehicles as just one example), but the worst thing about the production are the actors. Some specific shots are lifted, but the game does fairly well at using basic cinematic language (something a game like The Order 1886 consistently bungled).ģ: There are a lot more sets than I remembered that all feel, to one extent or another, believable. Also, the opening credits feel like something from Spike Lee. These two instances stick out with the rest of the game.
HEAVY RAIN BLACK CHARACTER TRIAL
Not only is there a scene and character lifted from The Shining, but also the last trial is seemingly staged in the final room of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I think many will immediately go to Seven, but at least those are thematic with the game overall. I also appreciate how dour it is throughout and that Cage, thankfully, didn't try to write any major comedy sequences like he did in Indigo Prophecy (the intentional ones, not the homeless underground army and necrophilia and flying bug nonsense).Ģ: The cinematic influences in the game are blatant. Perhaps time and lowered expectations this time around weathered me a bit. I played it upon release and was impressed by some of it, but overall was thrown for a loop by how bad some of the stuff is in it. 1: Heavy Rain is a more interesting and a tonally consistent game than I remembered.
